Allan Brooks Nature Centre (ABNC) sits on a rare antelope-brush grassland above Vernon, BC — one of the most endangered ecosystems in Canada. Named after Major Allan Brooks, a celebrated wildlife artist who lived and painted in the Okanagan in the early 1900s, ABNC is a non-profit dedicated to connecting people with the extraordinary biodiversity found right here in the South Okanagan.

We believe that when people truly experience nature, they become its protectors. Our mission is to inspire appreciation and stewardship of the Okanagan's grasslands, forests, and wetlands through hands-on education, guided discovery, and community connection.

Come ready to slow down and look closely. You'll walk interpretive trails through rare grassland, spot native birds and wildflowers, visit the wetland, explore the Pollinator Garden, and discover how much life is packed into this small but remarkable piece of the Okanagan.

Families are our favourite visitors. Trails are short and kid-friendly, and this app gives children their own way into the experience — with scavenger hunts, quizzes, and photo challenges built for curious young naturalists. We find that kids often spot things the adults miss entirely.
